Of all the forces of nature, I should think the wind contains the largest amount of motive power...

Take any given space of the earth's surface — for instance, Illinois; and all the power exerted by all the men, and beasts, and running-water, and steam, over and upon it, shall not equal the one hundredth part of what is exerted by the blowing of the wind over and upon the same space.

- Abraham Lincoln

About the Coalition

The Illinois Wind Energy Coalition (IWEC) is an alliance of businesses, organizations and individuals dedicated to helping wind power thrive in Illinois.

The Coalition is a diverse group. We are wind farm developers, turbine and component manufacturers, local officials, school administrators, labor and economic development groups, landowners, environmentalists and others that have joined together to call for state policies that help wind power grow in our state. This group was formerly known as the Illinois Wind Energy Association until late 2011, when IWEA merged with Wind on the Wires, a 501(c)(3) non-profit working to lower the barriers to wind energy throughout the Midwest. This new Coalition is the group’s advocacy arm in Illinois, and our policy agenda is determined by Wind on the Wires. For more information on WoW Membership, visit www.windonthewires.org

Wind energy is essential to our economic and environmental future in Illinois. We know these investments will create thousands of jobs, spur new manufacturing opportunities, and provide millions in new local property tax revenue, all at a time when our state’s economy is struggling.
